Very Bad Month
Posted by Brian
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Usually I love August, the month I was born in, baseball in full swing. However this August has been a very bad month for me, at least electronic wise.
This month I have had three different high value electronics die on me. First was my Xbox 360, had to send it in to get repaired. Was without it for a few weeks while I was waiting on it to get back to me. Second was my cell phone, this one was my fault though. I jumped into the pool with my cell still in my pocket. What can I say, sometimes I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Third was my computer. This one is probably the one I hate the most, and the most expensive to replace.
Right now I have an old computer pieced together 600-800mhz processor or so running on Ubuntu. It works fine I guess..for basic web browsing but isn’t much good for anything else. Ever since my computer went down I have been pricing parts to build my new computer. Seems like most configs have been running me anywhere from around 500-700 the lower end is without and operating system and me just using Ubuntu on it as well. I am leaning toward getting Vista a little bit, just for support of DirectX 10 but maybe it isn’t worth it, might just go with XP Pro (or just use home that I already have) and wait until a late time to upgrade to Vista. that way I can at least wait until some games are out using directX 10.
Regardless I need about 600-650 to be able to build the new computer, I am hoping to get it soon, might have to sell all my worldly possessions. I need have someone “Buy me a beer” on my last post for $25 I am going to put that in the “Get me a new computer fund”

Posted by Brian
Well again I am sure some of you are wondering, just were I am. Well, I have been having computer problems (still am actually). I am in the process of trying to piece together a a computer out of spare parts that will be good enough for me to get online, check email and keep my websites updated.
I am also looking of course to buy a new computer, hopefully I will be getting one soon, I just don’t really have the money right not to be dishing out for a brand new computer. We will so though might get one sooner than I think.
Hopefully my next update (and a real blog post) will come sooner than this one did.

Posted by Brian
I am looking for people that are interested in Guest Blogging on two sites of mine. The first one, you are reading right now, http://brianvaughan.com. With this site, the main focus is on website development, earning money online, and other general web related news/ideas. If you would like to write for this blog, either in a recurring role, or just a one time thing feel free to get in touch with me. Guest blogging can help get your name out there, as well as earn you some “free” links.
The other site I am looking to have a few guest bloggers for is http://inmoviereviews.com. With this site I am really looking for recurring authors. What do the posts need to be about for the site? Well, movie reviews would be great and very much welcomed. Other things would include hollywood rumors, movie news, upcoming movie previews, and posting trailers of new and upcoming movies.
Both sites are due for redesigns, and at such time each author will also have his own Info page that will be linked from every post you make. The info page will include information about you the author, and your site that you blog for as well as a link back to your site.
So if you are interested in becoming a Guest Blogger, please contact me.

Posted by Brian
I received an unusual phone call this past Sunday evening, and the fact that it was on a Sunday, makes it even more strange to me. I had just got back to my car from dropping off Kristen at the airport, my phone rings and it shows up as an Indiana number. Now me not knowing anyone from Indiana was confused to why someone from there would be calling me, so I answered the phone and this is what I was greeted with.
“Hello this is Tim from GoDaddy.com, How are you today?”
Now at this point I was thinking to myself, why in the world is a GoDaddy.com representative calling me. The only thing I could think of was something must have messed up with my renewal of InMovieReviews.com that I placed on the previous day. The phone call was short which was good. It seemed as though he was calling just to see how my experience with GoDaddy was, and to see if I had any questions about products or services that they offered.
I will admit, it was kinda cool getting a call from a big company like that. But now I just have to wonder, why would they call me? I checked my Godaddy.com account when I got home, I only have 2 domains with them and here they spent the time to call me to make sure my experience with them was positive when they could have been spending that time and resources into making their service even better. To me it just doesn’t make since for a big company like that to spend the resources calling a customer with 2 domains, I could see if i had hundreds, or thousands of domains with them but only having 2 I just don’t get it.
Now having said that I do think GoDaddy is a great company for domain registrations, I simply don’t use them as my primary register. This might make me think about using them more often, at least it shows that they care about their customers, even If I do think it was a misuse of resources.
July a Month in Review
Posted by Brian
Well July is over, and what a month it was. July is the month that the Mad Cow busted onto the scene in dramatic fashion. Also the month were this blog really took off for me, I saw amazing growth (well at least if you ask me). It 50 RSS feed readers for the first time, but then lost them when I was MIA for two weeks, but now working to get them back.
July also happened to be a decent month for me in turns of revenue, I pulled in $94.15 for the month, which again I know is not a lot, but for me is pretty decent. I am hoping the next two months will be better with school starting up again my arcade site should pick back up in popularity and should drive up my revenue.
Adsense — 58.80
Misc Sales — 29.35
Adbrite — 2.88
YPN — 2.23
Kontera — 0.89
===================
Total — 94.15
As usual Adsense was the best money maker, with “Misc Sales” coming in second, that includes credit purchases over at PurePimps.com and featured link sales on my directories.
