New Year, New Plans, New Hopes

Well though this isn’t technically the start of the new year, in fact it is almost a month over now. I thought I would start a developers blog to post about the sites I own and operate. First and foremost most of my sites are very small, and not very good. Over this year I hope to change that, and plan on focusing most of my efforts on one site, or one network of sites all focusing on “TalkFest”.

My newest site, and hopefully my biggest site ever MTF is a discussion board talking about movies, hollywood, and actors/actresses. I hope to get this site to a few thousand members before the end of the 2007. Do I think this site will be a huge success? Well not really, but I am holding out hope that it will be. I will be spending most of my free time promoting it, and trying to build it up into a great website. I hope to turn it into a mini IMDB. Now I know I can’t compete with them, as it is huge and a great resource, I just want to have something similar with a good user base to create a tight knit community with. Hopefully there will be a few cornerstones of the community that are very close, but I still have to have it inviting enough for the new user to feel right at home at MTF.

I already have my next site in the network planned out TVTF (http://tvtalkfest.com). I have already purchased the domain name for it, I am just waiting for MTF to get built up a little bit first before launching it. My plans for it are very similar as my plans for MTF, I want to turn TVTF into the next TVGuide.com. I am going to try and compete directly with them, I know that sounds foolish as they are a huge site and a good resource, but I simply don’t like the why it does things. So I hope to take it to the next level and be big player in the TV realm.

My plans are to use the same database for MTF, TVTF and future TF’s down the line. It will be a challenge to find a way to do this effectively, especially as the sites get bigger and bigger. I am using the forum software vBulletin, which in my opinion is the best forum/community software out on the market today. The only downside to using vB is the fact the licenses for it could get expensive as the network grows. Though I think the only license that will be hard to pull off is the license for TVTF since that is the second one. The others should come more easy as the network should be getting a fair amount of revenue coming in to pay all hosting bills and all licenses needed.

I have big hopes and dreams for this network of sites. I want to see them succeed and thrive for years to come. I will try to keep this blog updated with the newest news of the Talk Fest network, all my other sites, and other things that I find important. This will be my outlet to the world of my progress, my success, and my failures. I just hope there are more successes than failures.
