Valentines Day

Well it is that time of year again, flowers, candy, and love is everywhere around us. Hopefully all of you marketing affiliates have been using the weeks building up to this day to be pushing your programs that sell flowers and candy or any item that can be given at Valentines Day.

Hope everyone didn’t forget to get their special someone something that they will remember and cherish (for at least a week or two). Happy Valentines Day

The Little People

Posted by Brian

Wow it has been awhile since I’ve sat down and logged into this site to actually write a blog post. Hell must have just frozen over, i think it did feel the temperature drop a few degrees just now. Wow November 6th 2007 was my last post. How things have changed since then.

As those of you that read this blog before know I am a part-time supervisor at UPS. We just finished up over busy time of the year. Let me tell you, if you ever want to get paid to do a workout, come and work at UPS for awhile. The job isn’t for everyone, hell it isn’t even the job for most of the people that work there. It is a very hard and very physical job. We all say that we have to be crazy to be working there, doing what we do everyday, especially at the time we do it. During our peak season I was going into work between midnight and 1 A.M. It is nothing short of a miracle in there everyday when we actually get the job done. Every day brings a new twist, something will always go wrong. Since I started working there I can only actually remember a few days that were “problem” free.

I do enjoy working there, I work with some amazing people that are just as crazy as I am. As I said earlier you have to be crazy to work there. UPS is a big company as you might imagine and lots of time the little guys get walked all over, and treated like they are nothing. I see it happen every day, it happens to me and it happens to the people under me. Supervisors are always saying that they need “another body” to fill a whole. They don’t usually say we need Heather, or Ralph, or Sam. It’s always we need a body. I’ve been guilty of that too, but I don’t like saying it like that cause these are people, they are all different and for the most part all great people. I always say my work area is the funnest, which I think it is. We treat each other with respect and we try to have a little fun while we work.

Now your thinking, whats the point of all this blabbing ? Well, I guess the point is don’t forget about the little people that makes all the wheels go around. UPS couldn’t run with out the workers. What couldn’t your website run without? There are the data center emplooyees, power company employees that keep power flowing to the building, electricians that keep it wired correctly, AC workers that keep it cooled properly. Don’t forget to remember all of these people. No matter what you do, every day your effected by the “little” people. You might even be one of the “little” people, and if you are I salute you. Keep up the great job

Finally Back with a Smoking New Machine

Posted by Brian

It has been just over a month since the world has heard from me here at BrianVaughan.com. You may be wondering what exactly happened to me, might of thought I just fell off the face of the world, well it sure did seem like I did.

As I have stated in previous posts of mine, my computer was on the verge of really crapping out on me, and it finally did. For a while I was using an old back up machine running on a 600mhz processor or something crazy like that. It just didn’t cut it for me and was just making me madder and madder everything that I had to use it. But all of that is over now. I am running on a brand new custom built beast of a machine.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case
Cooler Master Extreme 500 Watt Power Supply
Asus Nvidia 590i SLI Mother Board
Nvidia 8600 graphics card
A-Data 2 Gigs of Ram (2x 1024 sticks)

I was able to canabolize my other machine and use the hard drive and dvd-writer from it. After Christmas I hope to upgrade at least the hard drive to a nice new SATA drive so I can get the most performance out of my new machine.

So now that I am back up and running what can you expect from me in the coming days and weeks? Well I want to get this blog rolling again, it had built up a bit of steam and was doing really well (at least in my opinion) had a small (but dedicated) group of readers. I want to get them back and bring in more of those types of readers. I might refocus the target audience of the blog, or at least expand into other things that I think my readers will enjoy reading about. Before my machine went down I had the 2nd part in my Adsense for Beginners series done, I need to get that rewritten and posted up for all to see.

I want to also get a custom theme done up the site, to make it stand out from all the rest of the blogs out there. While I was on the hiatus I did also find out this theme is slightly broken in at least IE7, so that is something I will want to address soon, it was still readable, but I feel like it should look better for those users. I’m hoping this blog will get rolling again really soon. So stay tuned in, I have a lot of catching up to do in the blogosphere once I finish reading the hundreds of posts I need to catch up on, expect a lot of posts to be rolling your way over the next week and month.

Very Bad Month

Posted by Brian

Usually I love August, the month I was born in, baseball in full swing. However this August has been a very bad month for me, at least electronic wise.

This month I have had three different high value electronics die on me. First was my Xbox 360, had to send it in to get repaired. Was without it for a few weeks while I was waiting on it to get back to me. Second was my cell phone, this one was my fault though. I jumped into the pool with my cell still in my pocket. What can I say, sometimes I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Third was my computer. This one is probably the one I hate the most, and the most expensive to replace.

Right now I have an old computer pieced together 600-800mhz processor or so running on Ubuntu. It works fine I guess..for basic web browsing but isn’t much good for anything else. Ever since my computer went down I have been pricing parts to build my new computer. Seems like most configs have been running me anywhere from around 500-700 the lower end is without and operating system and me just using Ubuntu on it as well. I am leaning toward getting Vista a little bit, just for support of DirectX 10 but maybe it isn’t worth it, might just go with XP Pro (or just use home that I already have) and wait until a late time to upgrade to Vista. that way I can at least wait until some games are out using directX 10.

Regardless I need about 600-650 to be able to build the new computer, I am hoping to get it soon, might have to sell all my worldly possessions. I need have someone “Buy me a beer” on my last post for $25 I am going to put that in the “Get me a new computer fund”

Computer Problems

Posted by Brian

Well again I am sure some of you are wondering, just were I am. Well, I have been having computer problems (still am actually). I am in the process of trying to piece together a a computer out of spare parts that will be good enough for me to get online, check email and keep my websites updated.

I am also looking of course to buy a new computer, hopefully I will be getting one soon, I just don’t really have the money right not to be dishing out for a brand new computer. We will so though might get one sooner than I think.

Hopefully my next update (and a real blog post) will come sooner than this one did.
