Help InMovieReviews.com Get a New Layout

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

John Chow just did a ReviewMe post for lifeBLUE Media. They are holding a contest where people will vote on the worst design, and the winner (or loser depending on how you look at it) will get a free redesign of their site.

Sounds great, and I would love to have In Movie Reviews to be sporting a hot fresh classy new look, especially since currently the site looks terrible in IE. So help me out and vote for my site.

Opening of a New Site

Posted by Brian

Today, I have officially got InMovieReviews.com up and running. There is still not a lot of content on the site, but I already have 6 scheduled posts over the next week setup and ready to go.

What can you expect from In Movie Reviews? Movie reviews, trailers, news, as well as upcoming theater and DVD releases. I love movies, love reading out them, writing about them, and of course watching them. I am hoping to take this site far, and maybe one day even start getting exclusive movie clips and interviews with directors and actors. Now that would be a great day for me and my users on the site.

Also In Movie Reviews is currently seeking additional movie reviewers, If you are interested in being a “guest reviewer” just let me know, and we might be able to work something out that works in both of our interests.

Yes, I do follow.

I Follow

What does this mean for you, the readers. You make a comment on this site, and Google, and other search engines will follow your link to your site. This site has always been a Do-Follow blog, and always will be. I’ve seen several sites I follow recently posting about how they now follow links in their comments. So I figured I should let everyone know that I do as well.

Writing for Your Audience

Posted by Brian

Now we all know that your visitors to your site are the most important part of your site, and if you didn’t know that I am telling you now, they are. Some of you may be scratching your head right now and saying “But isn’t content the most important part of our sites?”. In a way you are right, content is very important. However if the content isn’t written for your users, it doesn’t matter how good it is if your visitors don’t understand what you are trying to say.

The way you talk to the users sets the whole tone for your site, if the things you are saying are over their heads, they will leave and probably never come back, but if they get and understand what you are saying you might have just got yourself a dedicated reader on your site. These are the people you want to write for and the people you want coming back to your site day after day. Every site is different and every site will have a different target audience so you will have to tailor how you talk on your site to them. If your site is geared toward web experts you will probably use more advanced talk than you would to a website called “How to Learn to Sew”.

I have came across a lot of good sites out there, that have vast amounts of knowledge, but deliver it’s content in such a way that it makes it hard for the average user to get anything out of. With just a few simple changes though those sites could appeal to a wider spectrum of people. When I write for my sites, I try to keep it simple and easy so that even novice users to the site can get something out of what I have written. That is who my target audience is, now expert users may get something out of it as well but they are not my main target audience. Your real goal is to have it where everyone can get something out of your articles, once you master that you are well on your way to became a great writer, and on the way of running a successful website.
